Hands Down Support Group (HDS) was formed in 1997 by a group of parents who met at “Hand Camp,” an annual event held for children with limb differences and their families by Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Those parents were inspired to initiate more frequent gatherings to help educate and support each other. Since its inception, HDS has grown to over 1,200 families all around Texas.
Our mission is to provide accurate and useful information on the latest developments in the field to parents. We also want to provide opportunities for all children with hand differences to make friends and socialize with others like them. We hope these gatherings will help the children and parents understand that they are not alone.
Many families have benefited from the understanding, wisdom and encouragement that other members share during the HDS get-togethers. HDS believes that, with our help, our children can embrace their difference and educate others. We emphasize that difference does not equal disability!
The work of HDS is supported by tax deductible contributions made by individuals, companies and organizations.
